You Don’t Have to Say a Word
By H. Thomas Saylor
It’s not like the best kept secret
We both know the reasons why
One afraid to tell the other
I can see it in your eyes.
I pretend this isn’t happening
And ignore the things I’ve heard
I can close my eyes and hope for better
Then you won’t have to…you don’t have to say a word.
Maybe if I just stay silent
We can go on one more day
We can keep the life we started
And extend our one act play.
No need for answers…won’t ask the questions
And while this sounds a bit absurd
We could go on, dance just one more song
So we won?t have to…we don’t have to say a word.
Oh babe, can’t you remember
Seems like only yesterday
It was just me and you…everything was new
Love forever and a day.
I can pretend this isn’t happening
Tear up my ticket to L.A.
So while your heart beats for another
I could go blindly on my way.
But no, it’s just a masquerade we’re living
And the future calls to climb aboard
So best pack my bag and catch the plane that’s waiting
Then you won’t have to…you don’t have to say a word.
