Just Yesterday

Just yesterday… so it seems
I was chasing frogs
Playing catch in the backyard
Yesterday
So long ago a boy
Now, no time to play
Like there is so much we must do
Just to get through

When I’m feeling old
Like my story is all but told
You give me hope… you help me see
While I am not the man
The man I used to be
I can be more
Still not the man I can be

Just yesterday… so it seems
I was graduating
Grand plans to make a million
Yesterday
So long ago a teen
Now just bills to pay
There is always something overdue
Will we get through

When I’m feeling old
Like my story is all but told
You give me hope… you help me see
While I am not the man
The man I used to be
I can be more
Still not the man I can be

All this man could ever be
Inspired by your love for me
My breath, my life, my one desire
You quench my thirst… still light my fire

Just yesterday… so it seems
We met and fell in love
The future was forever
Yesterday
So long ago a young man
Now the kids are grown
The house is empty… just us two
We made it through

Just yesterday… so it seems
A boy, a teen, a young man
A husband and a father
And today
Remembering what matters
Our legacy… our family
A heart full of memories
And it’s not through

So when I’m feeling old
Like my story is all but told
You are my hope… you set me free
While I am not the man
The man I hoped to be
I’ve known much more
Much more than most will ever see

‘Cause all this man can ever be
Depends upon your love for me
My first, my last and my best friend
It’s what we share that has no end
